What We Typically Find On Site
Aranui’s homes are older, and the giveaway is hot water pressure. Galvanised pipework is still in place on the hot and cold systems in a lot of houses here, and galvanised corrodes from the inside, so flow drops away gradually over years rather than failing outright. Some properties also run a wetback, where the fire heats the water, which brings its own pressure limits. The odd thing about Aranui is that the cylinders themselves are often fine. Plenty have been replaced in the last ten years even where the pipework feeding them has not been touched since the house was built, so it is worth checking both rather than assuming the cylinder is the problem. An outdoor hot water cylinder is a popular fix, since it deals with the pressure and frees up the cupboard the old one was sitting in. One other thing worth checking while we are on site: spouting and downpipes here take a lot of UV, and wear on those is common enough that it is worth a look.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my hot water pressure low in Aranui?
Aranui's older homes commonly still have galvanised pipework on the hot and cold systems, and some run a wetback where the fire heats the water. Both can mean lower pressure than a modern mains pressure system. An outdoor cylinder upgrade is often the fix, and it frees up cupboard space too.
How much does it cost to replace a hot water cylinder?
It depends on the cylinder type, whether you stay low pressure or move to mains pressure, and how accessible the existing unit is. Moving to mains pressure or a hot water heat pump changes the pipework and valving, so we quote after seeing it rather than over the phone.
Do you charge extra to come out to Aranui?
No. Our call-out fee is the same across Aranui and our other Christchurch suburbs. We only add a travel charge for jobs genuinely outside the metro area, like Kaikoura or Akaroa.
My cylinder is fairly new but the pressure is still poor. Why?
In Aranui that is common. Plenty of homes have had the cylinder replaced in the last ten years while the galvanised pipework feeding it has never been touched. The restriction is in the pipe rather than the cylinder, so it is worth checking both before spending money on either.
Is there natural gas in Aranui?
No. Like the rest of Canterbury, Aranui runs on bottled LPG rather than reticulated gas, which in Christchurch is limited to the CBD and Northwood.
Do you handle after-hours emergencies in Aranui?
We respond to priority repairs during business hours. Call us with an urgent issue and we will dispatch the nearest qualified technician and give you an estimated arrival time. If we cannot get there soon enough, we would rather recommend another trusted tradesperson than leave you waiting.
