Whitehead Plumbing & Gas Pricing Info

At Whitehead Plumbing & Gas we believe in full transparency around our services and fees. Please see below for information regarding our services, including our charge-out rates. This information is intended as an informal guide only, rates will vary depending on the scope and requirements for each job.

Labour Only Charges

  • Plumber/Drainlayer: $148.00 plus GST (for first hour, including vehicle fee). Additional labour time charged at $105.00 plus GST per hour
  • Gasfitter: $190.00 plus GST (for first hour, including vehicle fee and Gas Compliance) Additional labour time charged at $112.00 plus GST per hour
  • Apprentice: Between $65.00 to $75.00 plus GST per hour

Please Note:

  • A minimum of 1 hour is charged per visit
  • Additional labour is charged per 15 minutes
  • Labour charges include travel to and from the job, and for any time spent sourcing parts

Parts And Equipment Charges

All parts and equipment required/used for the job will be additional to labour costs. For example, replacement fixtures such as baths, taps, toilets, sinks, hot water systems etc.

Gasfitting Compliance Charges

To comply with regulations, a Gas Safety Certificate is issued on completion of all gas fitting work, and a Gas Certificate of Compliance may also be necessary. These costs are generally built in to our first-hour charge.

Travel Charges

Travel outside of the immediate Christchurch City area will incur additional charges.

Factors That Affect Your Final Bill

When trying to estimate how much your plumbing, drain laying or gas fitting is going to cost in Christchurch, it is important to remember the following variables.

  • Job Scope: Is it routine maintenance, which is often straightforward, taking less time and labour, or is it a more complex repair or installation needing more manpower, advanced equipment, or a multi-day approach?
  • Certification Requirements: Will you need a Gas Safety Certificate (GSC) or Certificate of Compliance (CoC) which is required for new installations or high-risk work?
  • Location And Travel Fees: Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region is quite large, you can expect to pay additional fees for long-distance travel times.
  • Emergency Or After-Hours Callouts: Call-outs on weekends or public holidays will come with premium rates, as will late-night or early morning emergencies.
  • Parts And Complexity: Installing or replacing complex plumbing systems (a continuous-flow hot water system, for example) could involve more expensive high-end plumbing components.
  • Unforeseen Costs: As with any job there may be unforeseen hurdles and costs that arise during the course of the work which will add to the final cost.
